Mesh Safety Sides
Designed to make an adult bed safe for children under 12 and adults of a similar proportion.

There are times when adult care beds are specified for children or adults who are of similar proportion to children. The MHRA stipulate that the maximum gap between the side rails on care beds should be different for the following user groups because of the possible risk of entrapment:

1. Adults – the maximum allowed gap is no more than 12cm
2. Children under 12 years of age and adults of a similar proportion – the maximum allowed gap is 6cm (half of the adult permitted gap)

To ensure that our beds are safe for children and adults of a similar proportion to children, we suggest that our Mesh Safety Sides are used.

• We offer a full practical assessment and risk assessment and it’s free!
• The gaps between the rails are completely covered.
• Because of the end fastening, the mesh cannot be pulled back to represent the unsuitable gap.
• The strong mesh material can dramatically reduce the risk of asphyxiation unlike vinyl/plastic bumpers or sides.
• The rails can be lowered without having to remove the captive mesh unlike traditional bumpers.
• Beds may be specified with the Safety Base (see below) offering a gap free platform for the mattress to sit on.
• The Mesh Safety Sides may be specified with Padded Rails to reduce the risk of injury through impact.
• 3 rail option on Theracare Standard giving extra height. When lowered it drops below the mattress and therefore doesn't hinder transfers.
• Mesh Safety Sides are only available on the Theracare Low and Theracare Standard beds, in both 200 x 90cm or 170 x 90cm.
• The Mesh Safety Sides are easily removable and machine washable.
• Not available on beds from other companies due to precision of the fitting needed.

Theraposture Safety sides to adapt these beds are not available on the Theracare Community and cannot be made to fit other company's beds because of the precision required to ensure that gaps are closed.

Safe Base and padded head and foot boards
Safe base will provide an entrapment free platform, should hands explore the underside of the mattress. Padded head and foot boards reduce the risk of impact injury. Picture shows only part application.

3 Bar Side Rails
Increased height of sides that are integral and lower fully below the height of the mattress. This is particularly useful where a full replacement mattress or topper mattress may otherwise reduce the effective cotside height below the recommended minimum 22cm.

Mattress Options
It is possible to specify a Bekaert quilted cover to make a foam mattress with a water proof cover feel like a typical domestic upholstered mattress. This will detract from the mattress's ability to redistribute pressure.

Lifting pole
All Theracare range beds can be fitted with an overhead lifting pole which can assist the user to move in bed.

Lock off box
All Theracare range beds can be fitted with an electronic box, which can be switched to disable the functions of the hand control.
